Construction

Construction offers many hands-on activities that set kids up for future careers.

Students learn valuable life lessons as far as responsibility

”The soft skills that it takes to be employable, as well as learning a trade, learn how to use hands-on tools and computerized tools, as well as being able to create projects,” Construction teacher Scott Bridges said.

Construction also has many life skills that students can take into the future Mr. Bridges says

“Soft skills, they have the opportunity, the ability to do projects around their home,  students learn to be resourceful, they learn to take a chance students learn, you know, that they can complete tasks that are the same hard at first, with being persistent and continuing to try not to give up,” Bridges said.

Students  as we know are very cautious about the things that they have to do since they build things and use tools that can be very dangerous

“Of course, all of our students had to pass a safety test at 100% before students can go in the shop. And then before they can use any of the equipment in the shop, they had to be trained and show that they know the safety precautions and what equipment to use and what students need to be safe,” Bridges said.

Construction is one class you should know that go on field trips

“We’re part of Skills USA. So we do travel with it. We do a leadership conference in the fall, and then we have competitions in the spring. And we are working with some of our, our advisors in the community to be able to hopefully, you set up you go out and tour different facilities, I’m working with a couple of different ones even this year” Bridges said.

But like many classes, COVID-19 has also affected CTE classes

“It has affected us but not having the students in class. This year has been better than it was last year it does hinder traveling or field trips not being able to go some of the places we’d like to go” Bridges said.
