Ohio State wins National Championship

On Jan. 12, college football was changed forever. The very first, most anticipated College Football Playoff National Championship starring the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks went down in Arlington, Texas. Roughly 100,000 people packed  AT&T Stadium.

Going into the game, each team was evenly matched, each with 13 wins and one loss. But what mattered was the outcome, which, after four grueling quarters, ended with Ohio State on top with a final score of 42-20 and another football national title to add to their collection.

“What surprised me most about the game was how many turnovers Ohio State had and still won the game,” said Reed Mikels, a sophomore who pulled for the Bucks.

With each team fighting the entire game, one would wonder how the game ended the way it did. It all depended on which team fought more, since, in most people’s opinion, the teams were evenly matched. Add in some fumbles, interceptions, good blocks, and incredible passes, and there you have it. A very good football game.

The game opened with Oregon running down the field to get the first touchdown. Ohio State answered quickly, as Ezekiel Elliot, an Ohio State running back, soon scored a 33-yard touchdown, the longest run the Oregon defense has allowed in 22 games. Nick Vannett    soon scored yet another touchdown for the Bucks. The Bucks proceeded to march down the field again and score one more time to give them a pretty secure lead for the first half. The half ended with the Ducks scoring a field goal in order to stay in the game.

The second half opened with Oregon’s Byron Mitchell scoring a 70-yard touchdown, and taking away a little bit of the space between the scores. The space, however, would not be closed anymore that night. Elliot finished out the third quarter with another touchdown for Ohio State, followed by two more in the fourth quarter.

“I was surprised by how badly the Bucks won, it wasn’t even a close game in the second half,” Junior Varsity football player Boykin Brister said.

Credit should be given where credit is due: both teams had amazing offenses, but in the end, it came down to how well the defense was. While Ohio State had a few turnovers, their defense was able to keep the Duck’s quick offense at bay in order to let Elliot finish out the game for himself and the Bucks. Now the Bucks have seven national championships, while the Ducks still have yet to win one. The 2015 CFP National Championship was certainly a game to go down in the history books.
