The Golden Wave handed Hernando its first loss of the season in the Division 1-6A opener Sept. 25.

Tupelo, its fourth road game of the season, claimed its first touchdown with 6:56 left in the first quarter when LaBryant Siddell rushed 1 yard. Later in the first, quarterback Daniel Bristow threw for 78 yards to Chris Shannon for a TD, making Tupelo’s lead 14-7. In the second quarter, Keegan Huddleston increased Tupelo’s lead to 21-14 after catching a screen pass for a TD.

Early in the fourth quarter, Josh Smith kicked a field goal to increase the Wave’s lead to 24-10. Siddell scored his second TD of the night late in the fourth (31-10 Tupelo). The final score was 31-17.

Tupelo will play Columbus at Renasant Field Oct. 2.
