Thespians win superior at Competition
What Happened: On February 22-23, Tupelo High School Thespians went to Pearl High School to participate in the statewide Mississippi ‘Thes-con,’ where they watched and acted in one-act plays, attended many workshops, and met both new and old friends.
Eleven THS students earned a superior rating in the Individual Events earning them the right to go to Nebraska for the National conference in June.
Key Players: Tupelo High School winners Duet Acting- Capri Fears/Shae Philips, Emily Paul/Danasia Collins; Group Acting– William Archiblad/Dalton Arriola/Brendan Dillard; Solo Acting– Karci Watson, Dayna Johnson; Playwriting- Chapell Chumley; Play Marathon- the Cast and Crew of LAFAYETTE No. 1. Capri Fears won a Thespian Scholarship. Karci Watson and Duncan Stanley were named All Star Cast (for Lafayette No 1).
They Said It: “I was super excited for the opportunity to compete in a playwriting competition and so the fact that I won was an incredible experience that Tupelo High gave to me,” senior Chapell Chumley said.
“When they announced my name for the Superior Award, I was so excited I started crying. This meant that I could compete at Nebraska Internationals. It was a very exciting and thrilling experience,” senior Karci Watson said.
Up Next: Students who earned superior ratings will be able to go to Lincoln, Nebraska to the Nebraska State College for the National competition.
