Archery Competes in Lee County Virtual Competition

The Archery team competed in the Lee County Virtual meet in the Tupelo High School wood floor gym on Thursday, Feb. 10. Coach PreSsley and Coach Burleson prepared their team for the meet that determines if they are ready to go to competitions.

¨Practice, practice, practice. We gotta practice as many opportunities as we can get and make sure we make our practices as much like the competitions as possible,” Pressley said.

The coaches are hopeful for this season.

“I’m just looking to see how everyone has grown from last year and how they continue to grow as archers,” Pressley said.

Scores from the meet were close. The highest male score was shot by 279 by sophomore Preston Cook, and the highest female score was 270 by senior Emily Paul. Cook gave his strategy for shooting the target better.

̈Just control your breathing and focus on the target,¨ Cook said.¨

Saltillo High School placed 1st in the male and female categories at Thursday’s meet. Tupelo placed 2nd in female and 3rd in male. Baldwyn placed 2nd in male and 3rd in female. All of the scores combined, Saltillo 1st, Tupelo 2nd, Baldwyn 3rd and Guntown fourth.

The coaches hope to beat their cross-county rival Saltillo this year.  Saltillo has won 9 state championships.

̈We [have] got to raise our individual scores. Our girls team is going to be very important because they’re the ones that have the most room for improvement,” Pressley said.
