On September 9,  despite the chance of rain a light crowd of fans made the 50 mile drive to see the varsity football team beat the Corinth Warriors 42-10. The Wave experienced a dragging start to the game and fans, who were used to a knockout game, were on the edge of their seats as the clock ticked out to halftime with the Wave leading by only 5 points, 8-3.

“We kind of came out slow at the beginning offensively, you know. [We] had a lot of turnovers,” head football coach Ty Hardin said. 

After a halftime performance by the Corinth Marching Band, the Wave came out of the locker room prepared to tack another W on their record. Qua Middlebrooks scored a touchdown on a hand-off from Jeremiah Harrell at 10:52 in the third quarter and the Wave took off from there.

The game boiled down to a Quarterback showdown as THS’s Jeremiah Harrell attempted 17 passes and completed 11 and CHS’s, Brawner Cregeen, attempted 35 passes and completed 20. 

Tupelo brought the fire back scoring a total of 7 touchdowns with 6 touchdowns being scored in the second half. 

“It’s hard to win, you know, hard to play in games when you have four or five turnovers in the first half, but we did a great job turning around after halftime, settling down, playing great [in the] second half,” Hardin said. 

This was the 72nd meeting between the two teams since 1919. The wave currently leads the rivalry 49-21-2. 

“You know, it’s a game we can learn from,” Hardin said. 

Tupelo plays the Columbus Falcons this Friday and the Wave is gearing up for the 64 mile ride and hopes go 4-0.
