Tupelo Defeats Grenada

On September 23 the Wave faced off against the Grenada Chargers. This was the first 6a game for the Wave and they showed their talent winning with a final score of 20-7.

The Wave utilized their rushing game against Grenada. Wide receiver Qua Middlebrooks was the rushing leader. He scored a one touchdown on a carry off from Quarterback Jeremiah Harrel with 8:28 left in the second quarter. This gave Tupelo a 14 point lead going into half-time.

After a performance by the Grenada marching band, the Chargers came out ready to tack some points on the board. Grenada offensive linebacker Jahmani Washington scored a touchdown on a handoff from Jaylon Skinner. The Wave responded with a pass to Elijah Green with 3:47 left in the game to make the score 20-7.

The defense also developed a strong start to 6a play. The defense leader was linebacker Tristan Jernigan. Jernigan had one Tackles For Loss (TFL) and 0.5 sacks. 0.5 sacks means that the defense can get more than one player to disrupt the Quarterback’s decision to pass or carry-off.

This was the 37th meeting between the Chargers and the Golden Wave and the game began district play for both teams. This was the 3rd consecutive away game for Tupelo and the 3rd home game for the Chargers. Tupelo now leads the series 30-6-1 against Grenada. The series dates back to 1962. The Wave faces off their rival the Oxford Chargers on September 30.
