Behind almost every THS sporting event is Dillon Hutton, intently watching the game while live on air. Hutton is a first-year THS Sports Information Director and radio broadcaster for the athletics department. 

Hutton brings over 12 years of broadcasting experience to the table. He first started radio work in 2011 while in High School. He created his own network and worked on radio broadcasts for local football, baseball, and basketball games throughout his junior and senior year. After a stint at the University of Mississippi, Hutton returned to his home state of Virginia and continued broadcasting games within his district. His work for high school games landed him a job broadcasting in minor league baseball for the Bristol Pirates and at the Learfield IMG College. He started his role at THS at the start of this school year. 

Hutton says his favorite part of broadcasting at THS is his role in helping student athletes get recognized. 

¨I like getting the players noticed. Our student athletes here really work hard all year long and whenever they get into their seasons, sometimes things don’t get noticed. I think it’s good whenever something you worked hard for gets noticed and gets put out there,¨ said Hutton.  

Whether it’s creating social media graphics and posts, game highlights, or full-fledged broadcast productions, his work assists student-athletes in receiving scholarships and aids in potential recruitment opportunities.  

Hutton also enjoys working with students who have an interest in broadcasting and helping them learn the craft. 

¨It’s all about working together because [THS has] such a large athletics department that I can’t just do things alone for my SID, plus the broadcasting. It’s really cool how [the school] lets you get things done with students. And [students] are getting experience. I think that’s something that I’m really proud that we’ve already started here,” Hutton Said. 

Hutton also hopes to not only have an effect on students, but in the community as well. 

¨I hope people enjoy listening. I would like [the community] to listen to the broadcast and support our athletics or in any way they can,¨ Hutton said.
