The Tupelo Varsity Football team played their first road game of the season against the rival Oxford Chargers on Friday September 15th, Winning 49-7.
Tupelo wasted no time as they would score two touchdowns on the first two plays from scrimmage, including an 80 yard touchdown reception by Wide Receiver Braylon Mathews, his second touchdown of the season, and a fumble recovered for a touchdown by Defensive Linemen Jareylan Mccoy.
Just 22 seconds into the game Tupelo went up 14-0 against Oxford, but going into halftime both teams were only separated by one score with the Golden Wave leading 14-7.
Tupelo would be able to put the game away with 4 defensive takeaways in the second half, including 3 interceptions and a fumble recovery on an Oxford punt return, all 4 takeaways would lead to touchdown drives on offense. Tupelo did not allow any points on defense for the second half.
Quarterback Jeremiah Harrell had a season-high 4 touchdowns, one of which would come on a 4th down conversion in the red-zone leading to a touchdown reception for Wide Receiver Jq Witherspoon.
Running Back JJ Hill added another touchdown to his season-long tally of 8 scores on the ground with a 57 yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.
42 points is the largest margin of victory for the Golden Wave this season and 49 points is the most scored by the offense, so far Tupelo is winning all of their games by an average margin of victory of 38 points.
Tupelo is now 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in away games, next week they face Houston in Germantown, TN on Friday, September 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
