This year, many large video games have come out, with people most excited about certain recent games. Among the most popular games being released, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 stands out the most to the average video game fan.

“I think Spider-Man 2 is gonna win game of the year,” Dayshaun Souter said. 

In the game, players play as the two Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales. A sequel to the first Marvel’s Spider-Man, players swing through New York in a new and improved map and fight enemies with new and improved combat systems. Many players were excited at the game’s inclusion of venom.

The game’s success is undeniable, with it being the fastest selling Playstation game ever. In one day, the game sold over 2.5 million copies in physical products alone.

Spider-Man is not the only large game to be released this year, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III having been released this November. The game is the 23rd installment in the Call of Duty mainline series. Since the series has run so long, it has a dedicated fanbase of people that look forward to new games to play for a while.

“I’m ready for Call of Duty so I can play Warzone,” Torryn Mairidith said.

Warzone is a mode in the game that has been around since the first installment of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2019. The game mode is a battle royale mode, featuring weapons from the main game.

Sports fans enjoy yearly installments of games such as NBA 2K, Madden, EA FC, and MLB The Show. Most students are playing Madden and 2K, and have been for a while.

“My favorite game from this year is Madden, it’s really all I play,” Carson Foster said.

Madden and NBA 2K are both football and basketball games, respectively, that are released yearly. Many players flock to play the games around the same time each year when they are released, until the next game comes out. Madden 24 came out August of this year, and NBA 2K came out this September.

While some haven’t named them as their favorite games, there are many games that have come out and are coming out this year that have been praised in the community. Among these are Mortal Kombat 1, Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, and Super Mario Bros Wonder. 

2023 has been a large year for gaming, with over 100 major games being released this year, not including smaller indie companies.
