Coming from a tough season last year losing in the North Half championship game. The team had something to prove in the 23 season. Wave Media Sports Editor Carson Foster talks with coach Hardin about their post-season hopes.
WM: My name is Carson, who am I here with?
CH: Ty Hardin, Head Football Coach Tupelo High School.
WM: Coming off a good season last year, ending kind of bad. What was your thoughts coming to this season?
CH: I obviously felt like we were the best team in the state last year. But we didn’t finish the job, broke a lot of records, and things like that it was a great season, but also we know, we fell short of what our goal was. This year our guys, you know, kind of taking the title on count of unfinished business. And so, you know, we, we’ve been blessed last year, and this year, so far, we just gotta keep it one game at a time and worry about us.
WM: During the season, y’all had some tough losses, but bounced back. Whenever y’all bounced back, what did you say to the team to keep them pushing?
CH: The other team did not beat us in those losses, we lost those games. I thought those were some really good lessons for our guys. I think our guys, and I definitely myself, kept some receipts of what people were probably saying about us. Folks kind of forgot about us right there in the middle of the season. I knew what this team was. This team knew where they were. And I think they definitely just kind of humbled them, got them aligned, back focused. And just you know, it didn’t bother us. It tells you a lot about our guys. Those two losses in the middle of the season didn’t hurt us. And we just kind of strapped our boots back on and got to get to work and worried about ourselves.
WM: All right. Now going into the playoffs, what’s your main focus going in
CH: Winning the last game, whatever game you’re playing at the end of the day, worry about us. Our biggest enemy is us. It’s about being one and 0 at the end of each week and winning the last football game. That’s all we’re worried about. So this week, our last football game is DeSoto Central. So you know it’s worried about beating DeSoto Central.
WM: Thank you.
