Freshmen in  the “Exploring Careers” class are learning about all the broad career choices that are available to them. They gathered in the media center to present the career they had been doing research on. 

“When I was younger, me and my dad used to weld together, that gave me a huge connection to welding and the reason why I like it now,” freshman Levi McCafferty said.

Researching careers gives them time to figure out what it is they actually want to do, and make a plan on how they are going to make it happen.

“I’m going to take a welding class next school year. After high school I’m going to go to this academy in Jacksonville, Florida. For two years, to get a certification in welding,” McCafferty said. 

The people around you can make a huge impact when deciding what career path you want to go down. 

“My dad’s a surgeon, so he kind of inspired me to help people and want to be in the medical field,” freshman Morgan Mathis said.

Students are already exploring different colleges to see which school would fit them most.

“I visited Ole Miss and I learned that Ole Miss has a good pre med program and it’s a very nice campus. I plan on going there,” Mathis said. 

Students had to find out the qualifications that go into being in the profession that they researched.

“You will need to make a portfolio with all your designs to go into a university. To get a job in professional design, you need a bachelor’s degree in fashion design,” Jada Hunter said.

Exploring different career options gives students a chance to learn more about themselves and understand what they like or don’t like. 

“I’m very interested in fashion design, because it’s my way of expressing myself. And it’s just, it’s just me,” Hunter said.
