The National Weather Service in Memphis called the Wednesday snowfall in North Mississippi “an exceptional snow event,” noting reports on social media of 7-10 inches of accumulation. That, along with below freezing temps tonight, earned Tupelo Public School District students another snow day Thursday.

Students from Tupelo High School spent their first day off with friends and family, building Olafs and having snowball fights. Many of their photos are posted here.

Also, under the advisement of emergency responders, Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton imposed a city-wide curfew beginning tonight at 6 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, due to the hazardous road conditions.
