People usually have many different ways of expressing themselves, one of the top ways is music. Music is everywhere! You typically hear it in movies, shows, or maybe sometimes in stores.
When it comes to a band it can be conveyed or looked at in many different ways like Jazz band, Concert band, Marching band, Percussion, and Guard. It’s important for the students, the adults, and the teachers to see that it’s more to sports than just football and basketball. Especially for the kids who see this as a long term career, but mostly because music is in everything we see or hear.
“I just wanted to be involved in school. Many people don’t choose band. They go straight into sports. So i just wanted to pick something different.” Quinia Elliot has been in the band for over 6 years, she has gotten to see many great students and has also been able to show others that they’re just as capable as she is!
In Addition to Quinia, we have another student who shares her desire for the band. She also shares some of her close bonds she made within the band
“I remember in 5th grade I used to always see the band and I was like omg that’s so cool, I can’t wait to get in the band and then when I was in 6th grade I was like omg i can’t wait to march. I just Live, Laugh, Love band!” said a former band student named “Brooklyn Williams” her desire for the band started very young, when watching upperclassmen play and perform.
In comparison, we have another band student that goes by the name “Riyen Doss” she also shares her love for the band and how former upperclassmen/seniors motivated her to join the band as well.
“As a sixth grader I saw my older friends in middle school do it,and I was just like I can do it too so you know I’m here.” I really thought hers and Quinia quote just stood out to me because it really shows how upperclassmen can influence the younger ones a lot in many different aspects.
Next, we have a sophomore here at THS her name is “Soralya Hughes” and she basically states how she found what the band does outside on friday nights is very appealing. Soralya also tells us about her former section leader and how he helps keep her on task even when she didn’t realize she needed the encouragement.
“I got into the band just because I saw what they were doing. The band would go outside the highschool on Friday nights. So I thought it would be fun if I did it too.” I asked some of the band students who made an impact on how they see the band now and Soralya stated, “Probably Oscar, He made sure my freshman year I knew what I was doing, and he helped me when I didn’t know I needed help.”
Lastly, I interviewed a student who just got into band because her and her best friend wanted a class together but she ended up falling in love with it.
“Well when we were in sixth grade me and my best friend wanted a class together, so like we both just picked band, and now i’m here.”-Kazavia Jenkins. She also stated that “I’ll just say my old section leaders I had last year Aron and London really made an impact on how I see band now and they really inspired me to stay in it and motivated me not to quit.”
