The THS Marching Band program ends the season with success. They completed their goal of making finals everywhere they went. It was an emotional ride for many of the kids as the seniors reflected on their years in the program. As well as an emotional ride for the underclassmen who are close to them.
“I feel very sad because they’re my favorite and I love them so much. They’re like mothers to me. I know that college is gonna treat them good, but I’m going to really miss them” Emily Ard said.
Ard says that the seniors have impacted her journey through her first year of color guard.
“The seniors helped me know where to go and what to do when I was clueless,” Ard said.
They helped her also become more comfortable in this new environment.
“They helped me with my flag work when I was struggling then I hit my head, and it was funny because I fell and we all laughed, they made me feel welcomed at that moment, and I love them for that,” Ard said.
C’nia Price is the section leader of the battery.
“It’s been kind of stressful handling school and band, but at the same time, I’ve made some good friends, and I’ve grown a lot as a musician and as a person.” Price said.
She says she plans on continuing marching band in college.
“I’m glad that I joined marching band. As I said, I’ve definitely had a lot of growth as a person and a player. I’ve loved each of these years. And if there’s, like, any people who are currently in it or are considering doing it, you should do it. And then when you do it, enjoy it, because it does go by fast.” Price said.
Many challenges come with being in the band, but Price says her biggest challenge was, “Having haters, and that’s a weird thing to say, but like a lot of people, don’t have the best attitudes, and they just try to bring you down, and you just gotta, like, be optimistic and just push through certain points.”
Dustin Thrasher is the band director for THS.
“I think every time seniors leave and graduate, you know, it’s different personalities are leaving. It’s kids that everybody’s kind of gotten to know over a long period of time. So, of course, it’s always sad, and of course, that always impacts, you know, the group because that means that the group is not the same. But you know, I do think that we have a good crop coming up. So I mean, like, it’s one of those things where, yes, it’s sad, and yes, we will miss them, but I think that they have done a great job of laying a foundation for the next group of seniors to kind of fill their shoes if that makes sense.” Thrasher said.
