As a student at Tupelo High School, it feels strange to have a new principal. For the past few years, Dr. Thomas led our school, and even though we didn’t always think about it, she played a huge role in making the school feel like home. Dr. Thomas worked hard to provide opportunities for students and cared deeply about both the staff and the teachers.
“I feel good. This is my old principal, Mr. Enis, you know I had him in eighth and seventh grade. He was a nice principal to me, and I’m happy for Miss Thomas. You know, happy she is getting to level up in life. You know everything good,” said Noah McIntosh, THS student.
We’re definitely going to miss Dr. Thomas, but most of us are wishing her the best as she moves forward in her career. Now, we begin a new chapter with Dr. Enis. For many students, change can feel a little uncertain, especially when we don’t fully know what to expect.
“At first I was kind of nervous, but since I know him, I feel a little better about it, you know? He used to be my principal, so I think he’s gonna be fine,” said Brooklyn Williams, another THS student.
From what I’ve heard, Dr. Enis seems excited to return to Tupelo High and is ready to listen to students. However, it’s not just students who are adjusting, this transition impacts the teachers too. Changes in communication, decision-making, and overall dynamics can make things challenging at first.
“I’m excited, but just as usual, a little apprehensive. You know, what changes are going to be made? But I feel like Mr. Enis has been at Tupelo High School before. He did a great job, and so I think he’s going to be very supportive of both teachers and students,” said Ms. Beth Blanton, THS teacher.
Some students are hopeful that Dr. Enis will bring fresh ideas, maybe more fun activities, or better support systems for those who are struggling. Teachers seem optimistic too, especially knowing Dr. Enis has a history of working closely with staff and building relationships.
Of course, a new principal can only do so much alone. It’s going to take all of us, students, teachers, and parents, working together to make this transition a positive one. Here’s to a fresh start and a great year ahead with Dr. Enis leading Tupelo High School.
