As the school year progresses and gets ready to come to an end, students who are juniors are now preparing to be seniors. There are many options available that can help them achieve this. Preparing ahead of time can be beneficial in several ways, including: academic planning, tests (ACT/SAT), continuing extracurricular activities (clubs, sports), financial planning, school research (university/college), and goal setting.
With these tactics, they are now setting themselves up for a successful future. This also reduces the potential stress that students would have gone through. To get an insight into how different students decided to prepare, Students at Tupelo High School were interviewed.
One student, Amyah Dancer, said, “I plan on visiting many colleges, getting my ACT score up because I don’t remember what it was last time, while also keeping my faith in god, and being overly organized and keeping myself on the right path to success”.
Those were all very great choices that also offered benefits! Many of the juniors have decided to look into campus cultures and the city environment. This will play a big role in students choosing which college is best for them.
Another student, Kate Holmer, asserted, “Well, I’ve already taken college algebra and I’m gonna prepare to take some higher math classes over the summer and also read more”.
Taking AP courses helps many when it comes to college credit, a stronger application, and preparing for the transition into college. Other students said they have started exploring their interests to find out what they want to major in. Choosing the wrong major can be crucial for a lot of people, since we know your major is your career!
Kali Nicks added her own goals, “I plan to really just get my grades right, get my outfits together, and like for colleges and apply for scholarships”.
While Kali’s education is the main focus, she still wants to be a fashionista and look her best. These interviews show how thoughtful and motivated Tupelo High School juniors are as they prepare for their final year of high school.
Applying for scholarships ahead of time should always be a student’s first choice when going into college to avoid unexpected debt. These students gave great examples on how to plan to prepare within themselves. By planning ahead, staying organized, and focusing on their goals, they’re paving the way for a smooth and successful transition.
