As the high school baseball playoffs heat up, Tupelo High School’s team is stepping up to the plate with one thing in mind: a championship title. After a season of wins and standout games, they’re entertaining the postseason with drive and something to prove.
“Before a game, I usually stretch, listen to music, and study the picture,” senior Tyler Johnson said.
Pre-game rituals are one thing, but staying calm during intense moments is just as important, especially now that it’s the playoffs.
“I usually take deep breaths and get myself pumped up for the next moment,” Johnson said.
Over the years, Tyler has come a long way from how he used to play when he was younger, growing in confidence and skill.
“[It’s taken] Hard work and missing parties,” Johnson said.
As his skills improved, Tyler had to learn how to balance baseball with his personal life, which is a challenge that shaped him both on and off the field.
“Baseball first and all the other things after,” Johnson said
As he gets ready for college next year, Tyler is focused on making the most of his high school year by setting personal goals that will help him finish strong and get ready for college.
“Starting at Meridian Community College and practicing and working out every day,” Johnson said.
