Teacher Spotlight ?: Katrina Berry-Hooper

NAME:  Katrina Berry-Hooper

SUBJECT/CLASSES/SPORTS/CLUBS: Broadcast Journalism.

HOW LONG TEACHING: She became a teacher during the second week of January of this year. Before teaching she was in Broadcasting for 10 years. She worked at KTRE in Texas, WBBJ in Jackson Tennessee. She worked for WTVA in Tupelo for 7 years.  She worked at the campus newspaper The Pacer at the University of Tennessee- Martin for 4 years majoring in Journalism/Broadcasting. During college, she also worked at The Shreveport Times.

FAMILY:  She has two wonderful children, Channing (6th grade) & Christopher (9th grade)

FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING:  She enjoys the students and seeing the excitement on their faces.

LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING: She loves everything about teaching.

HOBBY OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: She volunteers with three Lee County schools, and supports her children in their athletics.

SPECIAL TALENT(S): She enjoys scrapbooking and coaching others to success.

WHAT WOULD PEOPLE  BE SURPRISED TO KNOW: People would be surprised to know that she is stepping out of her comfort zone. “I’m actually a shy person, and I hate standing up in front of PTO meetings.”  Ms. Berry-Hooper was the PTO president at her son’s school. 

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT AS A TEACHER:  “…I wanted to cry tears of joy when we compressed our first [broadcast] story, also getting done with our vision and watching it as it grows.”
