Golden Wave Basketball ends season at the “Big House”
The Boys Basketball team won the 6-A District and North Half championships before losing in the semi-final round of the state playoffs against Meridian 64-43.
The team had a great regular season this year. They won a total of 15 games, and lost a total of 7 games. They played a total of 23 games in all.
Making it to the “Big House” otherwise known as the Jackson Coliseum is a goal each season. The last time they went to the semi-finals was in 2012. After winning the District and North Half Championships at home the team and the whole school were excited about making it this year.
“I was overjoyed. I couldn’t believe it, I was so happy for the young men,” Assisitant Principal Tyrone Catledge said.
Starters Anthony Nichols and Mason Gary fouled out in the semi-final game at the Jackson coliseum. Nichols got a Technical Foul after talking back to the ref.
Junior Josh Mitchell scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds against Meridian. Despite not making it to the final championship game, the team is pleased with their performance.
“We had a great season overall. Playing as a team is the way we made it to Jackson,” Gary said.
Gary is a junior this year and plans to come back harder next year.
“We are a family, regardless of our up and downs. We made it to Jackson as one. We are still champions in our eyes,” junior Carson Rousseau said.
