Career coaches help students find their future.

An internship can look very good on your college resume because it shows that you have experience. This is also a great learning experience for students to learn what career they want to pursue.

¨I think a student would want to be an intern to just learn more about. And I tell students, even if you’re just sweeping the floor, it gives you an opportunity to get in and see what that business does,¨ career coach, Missy Lunceford said

The Create Foundation placed two career coaches at THS, Mrs. Lunceford and Mrs. Golden, who are both located in A building. Their job is to talk to students about what they want to do for a living and to help with internships and shadowing opportunities.

¨Shadowing is nice. We can get students set up to go visit a business person in the community, we make the phone calls, we try to make it as comfortable as possible.¨ Lunceford

If someone was interested in any opportunity to help find a career they would be happy to help.

¨Knowing what you want to do can get you started. And I think sometimes students who feel stuck at school, they feel bored at school, they’re just kind of waiting for their best life. if you know you want to be in manufacturing you’re just kind of sitting here¨, ¨You feel like you’re just wasting your time at the high school¨ Lunceford

Being an intern can be your college application or a job application. Internships were made for helping young people figure out what they want to do and to give the student a deeper understanding of how the workforce works.

“Shadowing definitely would help your resume. You’re starting to build your foundation like you’re building your future, your career. The foundation is the most important part to keep you steady.¨ says Lunceford

But getting internships and shadowing opportunities are not the only thing that the career coaches do. If you would just like to sit down and talk about what you would like to do in the future and all of the possible professions you could pursue.

¨We really want you to come and even if it’s awkward to step in the door, we’ll help you. We’re not here to make it weird or awkward, but we just want to start those relationships where we continue to meet., Don’t be afraid to ask what you want. If you want an internship, if you have a crazy, scary kind of creative, weird question, come and ask.¨ says Lunceford. Career coaches love when they get challenging questions from students because they get to learn new things.
