Wave remains undefeated against Murrah

On October 24, the Golden Wave made their way down to Jackson to face the Murrah chargers in a district game. The Wave crashed over the Chargers with a final score of 42-6. This win makes Tupelo 9-0 and 5-0 in district play. 

The Wave offense hit the field running with rushing leader Qua Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks had 12 rushing attempts. He rushed for  72 net yards and scored 2 touchdowns with an average of 6.6 yards per carry. The Golden Wave passing leader was Jeremiah Harrell with 11 passing attempts and 8 completions. He passed 133 yards against Murrah. The passing-receiving leader was KD Gibson with 62 yards and 2 touchdowns. 

The Wave defense stopped the Chargers allowing only 8 first downs throughout the game. The tackle leader was Tristen Jernigan with 1.5 Tackles for Loss (TFL). 

This was the first game since the passing of former Tupelo High alumnus and Mississippi State football player Sam Westmoreland. Tupelo placed a sticker with Sam’s name on the back with the Instagram caption “He is with us!” 

Tupelo football head coach Ty Hardin released an official statement after Westmoreland’s passing. 

“Our heart breaks today with the passing of Sam Westmoreland. Sam was a fantastic young man, brother, son, and teammate. He was a leader and his positivity was like no other. His teammates and coaches viewed Sam as a ray of sunshine with a contagious smile. He was even voted a team captain his senior year. His leadership and impact on our program will be carried on forever.”
