Mr.James Ingram

US History Teacher James Ingram is one of the most loved teachers here at THS. He has recently been chosen for Teacher Spotlight on the Official TPSD website.
Mr.Ingram has taught at THS for 10 years, starting off as a permanent sub for a government course and a state test tutor. Teaching has always been one of Mr. Ingram’s passions. He has known he wanted to be a teacher since middle school.
“I plan on working at Tupelo High School for as long as they will tolerate me, or until my passion for teaching goes away. Although I do not foresee that happening,” Ingram said.
This will be his 7th year teaching US History. Prior to US History, he taught U.S. Government, World History, and Economics. Many students enjoy his class for his enthusiastic teaching style.
“I really enjoy his class because of the way he talks. He had a very interactive teaching style and it just made me want to learn more.” Senior Bella Maka said.
His goal for his students is not only to learn a little about US History but also to remember to take life day-to-day and hopefully make as many memories while doing it.
“People get so caught up in the day-to-day monotony that they forget to smell the roses in the process. I want my students to leave my class with a memory that I tried to “smell the roses” along the way. This is my favorite part, my goal, and what makes me happy about being a teacher.” Ingram said.
Ingram has two children who both attend Tupelo schools. His first son Jae, is in 4th grade at Lawhon. And his youngest, Oliver, is in the first grade at Carver Elementary.
Ingram enjoys the mark he gets to leave on his students as well.
“My favorite part of teaching students is easily the opportunity to have a positive impact on young adults. Of course, I want teens to learn a little about this country’s history that they may not have known before they entered my classroom, however, I hope that they learn from me that it is possible to laugh, smile, and spread positivity day in and day out while we ‘work’.” Ingram said.
