From viral TikTok tracks to timeless ballads, the 2024 Grammy nominees reflect a year of musical revolutions and evolutions.

The Grammy’s is an awards ceremony where musical artists are recognized for their impact on the music industry. Many different iconic artists were nominated for a Grammy this year.

Some major artists that were nominated were Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and many others. SZA was the most nominated this year with a surprising 9 nominations.

Each year there are many opinions on who should win a Grammy in the different categories.

“What was I made for?” by Bille Eilish,” said Junior Valeria Ramos

Why do you think this person should receive the Grammy?

“I think since we’re at high school, it gives out a good message to us to help us you know,” said Ramos

The Grammys took place on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at 8 pm. Before the Grammy’s started there was a broadcast where the celebrities walked down the red carpet and explained how they felt about the night.

“Right now my favorite song is Naked by Ella Mai because I feel like she touches a lot of people. And it just warms my heart” said Sophomore Kera Smith

During the voting process, the academy’s voting members vote for the nominees and who receives a Grammy. The voting members are anonymous. Many artists won awards at the pre-show awards. At the pre-show awards, it’s mostly producers and artists who aren’t very well-known winning the awards.

Sometimes people’s favorite music artists aren’t nominated for a Grammy.

“Yes, Rod Wave Rodarius Green. Because he just talks about real-life stuff and I love that so much. He hits you dead in the soul.” said Smith

Record of the year went to Miley Cyrus with “Flowers”. Song of the Year went to “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish. The best new artist was Victoria Monet.

During Jay-Z’s speech, he called out the Grammys by saying he found it weird how his wife (Beyoncé Knowles-Carter) has 29 Grammys and none of them were Album of the Year.

“I think it should have went to Beyonce. Because of what Jay Z said. Which is 29 Grammys, and not one of them is Album of the Year like it don’t add up.” said Freshman Jada Hunter.

During the Grammys artists perform during breaks when more awards are being prepared to be announced. Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs, Burna Boy, Billie Eilish, Travis Scott, and SZA were artists who performed. Artists will perform the hit songs they had that year.

“I wish IGRES and Brent Faiyaz was nominated because of their work ethic in 2023 it gave and they put in the work and they should have been nominated,” said Hunter.

As the night was coming to an end the final awards were being given out before the Album of the Year award was going to be announced.
“Moment of Your Life” by Brent and Coco Jones,” said Hunter.

There were many amazing songs and albums this year that should have won something, but every song cannot win something, unfortunately.
The final award was being announced which was Album of the Year.

Taylor Swift won it with her album “Midnights.”

People had strong feelings about who the award should have been given to. Every year people say the Grammys are “rigged” and “unfair”.

“Yes, and no offense to Taylor Swift but I just don’t vibe with her music,” said Smith.

Not everyone was happy with who won awards but there is always next year.
