Hard work and mindset were key factors behind a successful State Championship run for the XC Boys team.
One athlete who stood out during the championship was Micah Vivian, who reflected on his prep and approach heading into the biggest race of the year.
“I really just did training- mileage, track workouts- basically everything everybody else was doing to keep up,” Vivian said. “My mindset going into the championship was more neutral. I always think about the good and bad, but it ended up going really well.
By staying consistent with his training and his mindset, Vivian was able to overcome his doubts, proving that preparation and perseverance can lead to unexpected success.
Boone Murphy, another contributor to the team’s state championship performance, explained the importance of peaking at the right time during the season. Murphy explained how the weeks leading up to the state meet were focused on sharpening speed and maximizing performance.
“We did a bunch of workouts towards the end of the season that are really important,” Murphy said. “It’s all about peaking running one of your fastest times all season. That’s really important for the state meet if you want to run really fast.”
Through focused preparation and intentional training, the team demonstrated how strategic workouts and timing can make a major difference on a race day.
