The Golden Wave had a rocky first game Aug. 21, losing to Clarksdale 25-28.

Kicker Josh Smith, a sophomore, showed off his skills with four field goals, greatly improving Tupelo’s score. The game was close in the end, but the Wildcats took the win.

“Not the opening night performance we wanted, but good effort and a ton of things to improve on,” assistant coach John Keith tweeted after the game. “New week starts now.”

The Golden Wave next plays at Corinth Aug. 28. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
