When Tupelo Offensive Coordinator John Keith heard the head football job at his old high school would soon become open, he knew it was an amazing opportunity he could not pass up.
Following the Golden Wave’s third consecutive playoff appearance, Keith was approved Monday as head football coach at Mooreville High School.
“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be the head football coach for the Troopers,” said Keith. “It is a chance for me to return home and hopefully give back to the community that helped me become the person I am today.”
While under Trent Hammond at THS, Keith helped the Wave reach the 6A championship game in 2013 and winning records all three seasons. Keith has also had assistant coaching stints at Southaven (2005-2006), Shannon (2007), and Amory (2008-2012). At Amory, he helped guide the Panthers to the 4A North Half title game in 2011.
“Tupelo has been great to me. I have truly enjoyed the work atmosphere.”
Keith graduated from Mooreville in 1997, and was a student assistant for the University of Mississippi football team from 2000-2001. John and his wife, Janelle, have two daughters… Analynn (8) and Meredith (6).
Mooreville competes in Class 3A-Region 4. The Troopers went 3-8 (2-3) last season under Kevin Austin.
