At Tupelo High School, students and staff came together to honor the lives lost and the heroes who served to help and honor during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Brian Amigon, a member of the school’s JROTC program, participated in the tribute. For Amigon, the tribute had a deep meaning to him.
Preparing for the tribute required lots of hard work and dedication. The JROTC program led the tribute with pride and honor.
“We prepared by having the whole JROTC program come out there and do a tribute to the 9/11 events that happened,” Amigon said. “We represented the colors, and our battalion commander, [Maytte Leon Becerra], also gave a speech.”
For Amigon, it was a reminder of how tragedy can touch anyone’s life. “I feel like I had a lot of emotions because it could be anyone’s family that could be impacted.”
Through their respectful remembrance, the Tupelo High School JROTC program ensured that the sacrifice of those affected by 9/11 will never be forgotten.
