Tupelo High School is on a block schedule, which means classes last one semester, then students change classes for the rest of the year. Changing classes isn’t only about changing schedules; it also means a fresh start for many.
“As a senior, I’m excited for the class changes because it will be the last time I get to do this in high school,” senior Jade Jones said.
“I’m pretty sure that my classes will be harder than they are now because I only had one class this semester, which wasn’t too hard, and next semester I will have more classes,” Jones said.
For some seniors, it might feel surreal because some of them are graduating early, so this was their last semester. Others, like the freshmen, will be going into their second semester of high school.
“I’m kind of nervous about the class change because it feels like a restart of the first day of school,” freshman Treasure Miyongo said.
“Something I’m looking forward to with the class changes is that now I have Track on my schedule, so now I will have a class with my teammates,” Miyongo said.
It is a mixed topic among students. Classes may get harder or easier when they change. Some students prefer one semester over the other.
“I like the second semester better because I’m used to the flow of things, and when we go into the second semester, I will be done with all of my state tests,” sophomore Caroline Nguyen said.
“I think during the second semester I will have an easier time because I had all of my harder classes first, like AP Government and Algebra 2,” Nguyen said.
Even though students are going into the second semester and their classes may change, the expectations will still be the same: Do the best you possibly can and get through it.
