Quill and Scroll, THS’s Journalism Honor Society, held a food drive last November, which coincided with the Government shutdown. It wasn’t just about collecting cans and boxes; it was about helping people in our community who needed it.
The club collected donations from November 3-21 in Katrina Berry-Ivy’s Class- M101, Sharin Chumely’s Class-A116 and in J Building by the elevator.
Louis “LJ” Conley, the Quill and Scroll president, organized the club’s food drive.
“Hunger shouldn’t be something we debate. Everyone deserves to eat.” Conley said.
Conley made flyers, spoke with students and wrapped collection boxes. But it wasn’t just Conley; all THS got involved. Students brought food from home, sorted donations and got neighbors to pitch in. Teachers got involved as well
The Club filled the bins quickly with items like pasta, cereal, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and more. Doing the food drive shows that even small things, like donating a box of mac and cheese, can make a big difference. The food was delivered to the Lee County Hunger Coalition.
